Tips for a Sharp Favicon

  • Start from a square image of 512 px or more - an SVG logo is ideal.
  • Simplify: a single letter or symbol reads far better at 16 px than a full logo with text.
  • Check both tab previews - a dark mark can vanish on a dark browser theme.
  • Use 5-10% padding if your logo touches the edges.

How to Install It

Unzip the package and upload every file to the root folder of your website, next to your homepage. Then paste the HTML tags into the <head> of every page (or your theme's header template).

Using WordPress? Go to Appearance, Customize, Site Identity and upload the 512 px PNG as your Site Icon. Need a custom multi-size .ico? ConvertICO builds one from any PNG.

Frequently Asked Questions

A favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 px for browsers and Windows, a 180 x 180 apple-touch-icon.png for iPhone and iPad home screens, and 192 and 512 px PNGs referenced from site.webmanifest for Android and installable web apps. This generator creates all of them.

Upload them to the root folder of your website, so favicon.ico is reachable at yoursite.com/favicon.ico. Then paste the generated link tags into the head section of your pages.

Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Hard-refresh the page, open it in a private window, or add a version to the link, for example /favicon.ico?v=2. Google Search can take days or weeks to show a new favicon in results.

No. Every icon, the .ico file and the ZIP are created in your browser. Your logo never leaves your device.

Transparent works well in browser tabs, but iOS fills transparency with black on the home screen, so the Apple touch icon is always given a solid background. Make sure your mark is readable on both light and dark tabs.
