Which Format Should You Choose?

JPG - best for photographs and complex images without transparency. Very high visual quality at the High setting. Supported everywhere.

WebP - the best default choice for the modern web. Smaller than JPG with full transparency support. All major browsers since 2020.

AVIF - next-generation format with even better compression than WebP at equal quality. Ideal for web, supported by all modern browsers since 2023.

TIFF - lossless format for professional print and design workflows. Large files, unlimited color depth, transparency preserved.

ICO - for Windows icons and favicons. The PNG is automatically resized to 256x256. For full multi-size favicon packages, use ConvertICO.

How to Convert PNG Files

  1. Select your output format using the format buttons above the upload area.
  2. Optionally click Settings to adjust quality (JPG/WebP/AVIF), change the transparency background color (JPG/BMP/GIF), or set a custom filename suffix.
  3. Drop up to 20 PNG files into the upload area, or click Browse Files. Settings are locked in at upload time per file.
  4. Download each converted file individually, or use Download ZIP when 3 or more are ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

JPG uses lossy compression, so there is always some quality reduction compared to the original PNG. At the High quality setting (92%), the difference is nearly invisible for photographs. For flat-color graphics, logos, and icons with sharp edges, some artifacts may appear - for those, WebP is a better choice since it supports transparency and has superior compression.

It depends on the output format. WebP, AVIF, TIFF, and GIF support transparency and will preserve it. JPG, BMP, and ICO do not support alpha transparency - transparent areas will be filled with a solid background color. White is the default; you can change it to black or any custom hex color in the Settings panel before uploading.

Both are modern web formats with better compression than JPG or PNG, and both support transparency. AVIF generally achieves smaller file sizes than WebP at the same visual quality, but requires a slightly more recent browser. All major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) have supported both since 2023. WebP is the safer choice if you need compatibility with older browser versions; AVIF is better if you want the smallest possible file size for cutting-edge web performance.

White by default. You can change this in the Settings panel - choose black or type any custom 6-digit hex color code. This is particularly useful when your converted image needs to blend into a specific background color on your website or document. For example, if your site background is dark gray, type its hex code to avoid a white halo around your converted image.

Yes - drop up to 20 PNG files at once. All files are converted in parallel using the format and settings active at the time of upload. Each file shows its own progress and result card. When 3 or more files are done, a Download ZIP button appears so you can grab them all in one click.

Select ICO as the output format and upload your PNG. The converter automatically resizes the image to 256x256 pixels and outputs a standard .ico file. For a complete favicon package with multiple embedded sizes (16px, 32px, 48px, 256px) and the HTML link tags you need, use ConvertICO.com which specializes in favicon generation.

Quality applies to lossy output formats: JPG, WebP, and AVIF. High (default) produces the best visual result with larger files. Medium is a good balance for most web use. Low produces the smallest files but with more visible compression artifacts. For lossless formats - TIFF, BMP, GIF, and ICO - the Quality setting has no effect.

Yes. All converted files have EXIF data, GPS coordinates, ICC color profiles, and other embedded metadata stripped automatically. This is applied on every conversion and results in smaller output files. There is nothing you need to enable - it is always active.
